More thunder outside. Cosma rolled over on her bed and closed her eyes even tighter than before. It really wasn’t letting up. A bottle of sleeping pills prescribed to her by the good Dr Mergener sat on her bedside table, several of them having been taken by her earlier that night. They hadn’t done anything to alleviate her condition, however, and she still spent every night desperately trying to fall asleep with no luck. She was rolling over again, which never helped, but she did it incessantly anyways, when she heard her phone’s ringtone go off on her other bedside table. She reached out a hand to grab it and weakly said “... hello?”
“Cosma! How’s it going?” Nefuenidd said.
“... still trying to fall asleep. Why are you calling me.”
“I’ve got a little task for you, Cosma.”
“I already did your task, please stop bothering me.”
“Aha, but I did say I’d call you again, didn’t I? You’re not off the hook yet!”
“... dammit. … what do I need to do.”
“So you remember that dresser you had, right?”
“... still have.”
“Not for long, haha. Go look behind it, please, Cosma.”
“... fine.” She rolled out of bed, clattered onto the floor by accident, and then, after slowly getting up, walked over to her dresser and peered behind it. “That hole is significantly larger now. What are you doing?”
“Not relevant to you, Cosma, just drop something into it! It’s not that hard!”
“No.”
“Hm?”
“I really have no desire to do this and it’s not helping me in any tangible way. Why would I.”
“Because… uh… wait a minute, I’ve got it. If you do everything I tell you to, you won’t have to worry about your insomnia ever again!”
“... really?”
“Yeah, trust me on this one.”
“That is very oddly specific wording but I’ll take your word for it. I can’t tolerate this anymore. Fine, let me see what I can shove into this.” She looked over at the hole again and realized it was almost the exact same size as the dresser. With some amount of force, she pushed the dresser into the pit, causing it to instantly balloon to the size of about a quarter of her room. She backed away slowly, looking nervously at the now-sizable hole, and raised her phone back to her mouth. “Alright, I did it. Can you cure my insomnia now?”
“No, you’ve gotta do a few more things for me first, Cosma! Don’t get greedy just yet!”
“... dammit. Do they all involve pushing things into this hole.”
“You know it!” Nefuenidd hung up and leaned back in their chair, satisfied with the progress their anti-Universe plan was making. They started to get up to go grab some void coffee when their phone started buzzing. They answered with a “Hello? Who is this?”
“It’s me, Claire, your biggest fan! You’re so cool Nefuenidd, literally the coolest creature to ever have existed or to exist. Really, I love you so much, did you get my sacrifices I gave to you? That took a really long time to get them Nefuenidd, I hope you appreciated them, you’re so coo-” Nefuenidd hung up immediately.
